Hi, I’m Christine Beckner (She/Her)

I am a licensed mental health therapist who has worked with children, adolescents, and adults on a variety of mental health challenges.

I believe that each individual has the tools they need to succeed, but can benefit from some additional support to fine tune those skills or at times develop newer healthier skills.

Wherever you are on your mental health journey I am happy to support you, utilizing warmth, compassion, and a bit of humor. I feel these are effective tools in the therapeutic process, which can at times be challenging.

Together we will develop your goals and work together. If I sound like a good fit for you take a look around my website and reach out to me.

I can’t wait to meet you!

Welcome!

About Me

I grew up in a small city between Sacramento and San Francisco, where I often assisted my mother, a dedicated educator at a low-income Title I school. I initially considered becoming a teacher, but discovered my true passion was supporting individuals with mental health challenges. This realization led me to pursue a degree in Psychology and a graduate degree in Counseling, ultimately becoming a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

During my internship at a non-profit outside of Sacramento, I worked with children, adults, and families, providing trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and attachment-based family therapy. My practice now focuses primarily on individuals, though I have specialized training in couples and family therapy.

After graduating, I accepted a position as a therapist at a Sacramento County agency specializing in domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking. I worked with both children and adults, led a domestic violence group, and served as a designated children's therapist at the safe house, where I also facilitated a parenting group. My passion for this work remains strong, but I later transitioned to focus on mental health in an academic setting.

I became an in-school therapist at a TK-2nd grade elementary school near Davis, CA, where I developed a mental health program to support young children and educators. During the pandemic, I adapted to virtual therapy, supporting students, staff, and families through coping skills, lessons, and toolkits. When students returned to in-person learning, I created a wellness room to better support them during this difficult time (it was named Christine’s Corner on my last day). When my partner’s employment led us to another part of the country, I shifted to virtual therapy, joining a tech startup to work with children and adolescents on issues like anxiety, depression, ADHD, and OCD.

I now run my own private practice in which I serve clients aged six and up. Recently, I completed a 36-hour comprehensive training in ADHD, which complements my trauma-focused work, as these areas often intersect. However, I am passionate about working with clients experiencing various mental health challenges.
